Located in the heart of the city, St Andrew’s Cathedral School occupies a number of floors in a traditional office block building.
St Andrew’s is often referred to as “the school with the lifts” and navigation between floors for outsiders can sometimes be confusing as the normal markers and natural visual cues are minimal. We created a series of designs and colour coding to help differentiate floors and areas for students, admin and teachers.
Upon arrival on the different floors, a bank of lift doors facing each other indicate floor number and set the colour code for that floor. In the entranceways to different areas, signage was incorporated into the film to display the area names.
Privacy and safety for both students and teachers were thoroughly considered throughout and bleux worked hard to ensure that the film was punctuated with clear areas without compromising the requirement to be BCA compliant. Student counselling rooms allow for enough privacy to allow students to remain anonymous without completely obscuring room occupancy. Classrooms have wide bands of colour coded optically clear film to provide privacy screening for students sitting in the classrooms whilst complying to the BCA requirement for safety bands. In some of the teachers’ offices, the design was lowered so that when seated, the teacher can observe a student area.
